Showing from 9 to 16 April, 10am – 4pm at The Light Lab, Historic Village, and a permanent installation at Multicultural Tauranga from Monday 24 April 2023.
A not for profit project with funding from the Creative Communities Scheme.
We Here is a photographic journey where up-and-coming photographers became involved in photographing people in a studio setting, learning or developing the processes involved in using studio lighting techniques. The process has taken participants through a ‘real life’ project to provide an experience and pathway to help further their career as an artist.
As an arts educator at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology teaching photography and sculpture, Nic Clegg has a proven track record in the writing and delivery of quality education programmes. As an artist with more than 25 years experience he possesses the facilitation skills to provide up-and-coming artists with the tools required to produce quality artworks and learn how to promote and exhibit, showcasing their creativity.
The people photographed come from diverse ethnicities dressed in traditional costume, and tell a story representing their heritage, their journey to New Zealand, and their experiences of becoming part of the Kiwi culture. Individuals relate their story as to how they came to New Zealand and why they chose Tauranga. The project aims to create awareness within the wider community of the value our diverse ethnic and cultural communities offer to Tauranga. The project aims to break down barriers and provide people with the means to celebrate rather than be fearful of diversity.
Post-exhibition the images will be on permanent display at the offices of Multicultural Tauranga in the Historic Village.
Working in collaboration with The Incubator Creative Hub, Creative Bay of Plenty and Multicultural Tauranga, the project aims to celebrate diversity in our city.
