Are you a senior secondary student passionate about singing and on-stage performance? The Tauranga Opera Forum (TOFT) is excited to announce the 2025 TOFT Singing Scholarships, providing a fantastic opportunity to further your vocal development.
Scholarships on offer:
- First Prize: $2,000
- Second Prize: $1,500
- Third Prize: $1,000 (a discretionary prize, dependent on the number of contestants)
Traditionally, winners have received private singing lessons with a qualified teacher, funded directly by TOFT. However, this year brings some exciting changes. At the Scholarship Concert on Saturday 19 October 2024, winners will be awarded their certificates along with a proposal form. This form allows them to suggest alternative uses for their scholarship money, provided these align with TOFT’s purposes.
Exciting opportunities for 2025:
- Explore higher education: An information visit to the Conservatorium of Music at Waikato University, Hamilton, to consider future study options in music and singing.
- Experience NZ Opera: Attend a dress rehearsal of an NZ Opera production in Auckland for under $30 (a significant saving on the usual ticket prices of $79-$189).
- Perform with BOP Symphonia: A chance to sing at the annual Rising Stars Concert.
- Showcase your talent: Two public performance opportunities at TOFT’s Sunday Concert series (May 4th and July 20th, dates to be confirmed).
All local students with a passion for singing, whether in opera or any other stage genre, are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.
