Jann Medlicott MNZM

The arts sector in Aotearoa lost a passionate supporter and true champion when radiologist and philanthropist, Jann Medlicott (Dr) MNZM, passed away at her home in Tauranga recently after a long battle with cancer.

Jann was the donor of the prestigious Acorn Fiction Prize at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards, for many years bestowing the prize anonymously to some of the best loved writers in New Zealand. Her legacy to fiction writers will live on in perpetuity having planned for the continuation of this gift through her endowment fund with Acorn Foundation.

Creative Bay of Plenty was lucky enough to have worked with Jann to administer the annual Acorn Foundation Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Scholarship, which supported local creatives across all genres undertake further study in the creative arts. Her immense contribution will inspire and encourage New Zealand artists and writers into the future.

“Jann Medlicott will always be remembered as a true champion of the arts, in her always modest but deeply considered way,” says Acorn Foundation.

Vale, Jann.
