Te Manawataki o Te Papa mural opportunity

Project background and purpose:

To celebrate the development of the Te Manawataki o Te Papa civic precinct, construction company LT McGuiness are seeking applications from artists to create a mural on the hoardings at the entrance to the site, to brighten up the area for those working on the site and the public who walk by it everyday.

Project brief:

Artists are invited to send in an expression of interest to design a mural that celebrates the Tauranga community. Artists can interpret the brief however they want, LT McGuiness are open to narratives, styles, and mediums (so long as they are 2D murals). They would like to see a mural that incorporates the themes of togetherness and community. Potential themes could also include the heritage of the site, where the city is going in the future, and/or celebrating the new civic precinct, Te Manawataki o Te Papa.

Artists must include the words ‘Te Manawataki o Te Papa’ and its translation ‘The Heartbeat of Te Papa’ somewhere in their design.

There are two spaces that LT McGuiness would like to see a mural on, there is the opportunity for one artist to create the mural for both spaces, or the opportunity for two artists to be commissioned.

Applications are open now and close Monday 14 October at 9am.
