The Arts and Culture Strategy is a multi-stakeholder partnership plan encompassing Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region.
It is the role of Creative Bay Of Plenty to monitor and report on the Regional Arts and Culture Strategy Toi Moana from 2018 – 2021.
WHY DO WE NEED A STRATEGY?
Our community believes that arts and cultural experiences are a vital part of our wellbeing, our identity and the fabric of life in the Bay. We want to see this sector grow exponentially, as well as contribute to, and take advantage of, tourism and resident population increases, and for the sector to support sustainable growth in our local economy.
Vibrant and welcoming communities are those that foster creative experimentation by encouraging artists, promote participation and bring art and people together in their communities.
This is an over-arching strategy to unlock the potential of the creative sector and grow the economy to make the Tauranga city more globally competitive.

STRATEGY BACKGROUND
The Arts & Culture Strategy is a framework for the two councils, and their funding partners which outlines where our arts and cultural sector is right now, where we want to be and what we need to do to get there.
It’s a three-year plan that will create a clear framework and priorities for decision-making, ensuring our arts and cultural sector grows in a logical and sustainable way.
IMPLEMENTATION PLAN – ARTS & CULTURE STRATEGY
The Arts & Culture Implementation Plan supports Toi Moana and includes actions and commitment from Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty’s sector partners.
By collectively focusing energies and working together, lead agencies have accepted responisbility for delivering initiatives and actions to improve the quality and quantity of arts and culture available to everyone in the region.
