Performing Arts Scholarship

The Acorn Foundation FAME Year 13 Performing Arts Scholarship is valued at $5,000 and awarded annually to support the study of performing arts.

Applications to the FAME Year 13 Performing Arts Scholarship are facilitated by Creative Bay of Plenty.

Award value: The award has a base value of $5,000.

Criteria:

Applicants must be in Year 13 of secondary school and planning to undertake tertiary study the following year in preparation for a career in performing arts. They must currently reside in Tauranga city or Western Bay district.

Performing arts areas of focus:

This scholarship supports emerging creative talent in performing arts, including music, contemporary dance, and theatre; related performing arts technical fields; and those involved in stage-based content generation and production. Examples include:

Music: instrumentalists, operatic singers, composers, producers, conductors, taonga puoro players.

Contemporary Dance: dancers, choreographers, producers, kapa haka leaders.

Theatre: actors, directors, playwrights, storytellers, stage designers [lighting/sound technicians].

To apply:

Applications are close for the 2024 round. The following information is required:

  • The qualification or course in which applicant intends to enrol;
  • A brief portfolio demonstrating skills and experience in performing arts (this can be in video format);
  • A succinct statement outlining the applicant’s experience, ability and reasons for applying; the impact the scholarship will have on the applicant; and how it could benefit the community; and
  • Two testimonials from relevant referees.

Decisions:

  • The award will be given later this year (Oct/Nov 2024).
  • In the event of no decision being made due to insufficient or unsuitable applications, the award will be held over for a year and applications will be re-invited.
