Tauranga Writers Incorporated

Tauranga Writers is New Zealand’s longest running self-help group for writers, established in 1967. Our mission statement is ‘getting you started & getting you published’ and our mantra is ‘Writers write!’

In 2019, members brought out 13 published titles between them and the principles that guide us are:

  1. A quality product
  2. Effective marketing
  3. Mutual support to achieve both

Between the first week in February and the first week in December, we hold two meetings a month. On the first Thursday is a work in progress meeting from 7-9pm that includes the sharing of news, the reading of work and helpful feedback. Visitors are always welcome. On the third Sunday from 2-4pm is a Sunday Focus Session that is either a workshop or a presentation on some particular genre or aspect of writing that is open to the public.

Throughout the year we celebrate member launches, which are usually open to the public also, and once a year we honour local writers with a display of their books, readings and activities that we call Books from our Own Backyard.

A handout is downloadable from our website for your further information, and there are free downloads there for anyone to use of many kinds. We are open to queries and questions, and we are a friendly, well-informed and extremely supportive group for anyone wanting a go at being a writer.
