PROFILE

Lois Parish Evans

  • Visual Arts

I’m a textile/mixed media artist and have been passionate about creativity, textiles and art since childhood.

Born to NZ parents in Papua New Guinea I spent many years in Australia where I also studied Visual Arts (Fibre & Photography), Art Education and Art Therapy. At the beginning of 2016, I resettled back to Tauranga with my husband and two children, and my heart has come home.

I’m passionate about creativity because I believe it is the wellspring of life, in all its forms.

Textiles have been my chosen medium because the tactile quality of textile adds another dimension to my artwork. However, I often use printmaking techniques and hand colour or hand paint my textiles and photography is starting to appear more frequently in my work.

My inspiration comes from the natural world around me and I like to explore the extraordinary in the ordinary, focusing on the lines, colour, shapes and patterns that I see in the inspiration. My work ranges from stylised to representational abstraction and I love to push a design by working in a series, often delving deeper into abstracting the original drawing/design.

I exhibit regularly and have won awards for my textile art in NZ, Australia and the USA and my work is in public and private collections nationally and internationally. I am available to teach to groups or individuals and I enjoy creating a space where others can feel safe to explore their creativity.
