Kia Ora, I am Pete McCartney, a self taught part time artist who grew up here in the Bay.

Currently I split my time between looking after my daughter, working as a landscape architect and creative projects.

I create elegant black pen ink drawings inspired by New Zealand’s native flora and fauna. I have always had an affinity and fascination for New Zealand’s wild environment and the unique wildlife that call it home. The striking contrast of the black ink on white paper brings out the detail and features of the subject. Each pen stroke requires patience and careful consideration. The process is slow and unforgiving and requires me to spend time considering each individual element, feather, scale or antenna in the context of the whole drawing.

I aim to highlight the amazing attributes, quirks and subtleties of the creatures that we share New Zealand with.

A portion of the sale of my artwork is contributed towards wildlife conservation projects around New Zealand
