The Arts Junction: Where Creativity Comes to Life

The Arts Junction is a warm, welcoming and wonderfully quirky home for the arts in the heart of Katikati. It’s a place where exhibitions, performances, workshops, music, film and community gatherings can all happen under one roof.

The Carlton Gallery is an intimate exhibition space showcasing a diverse mix of local and New Zealand artists, multimedia works and stunning pieces. With approximately 15 metres of wall space, the gallery presents a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year, offering something new to discover each month. The gallery also hosts a special Christmas exhibition from mid-November through to Christmas, making it a wonderful place to discover and support local creativity.

Then there’s the Junction Theatre, a truly unique little space. Set up as a boutique cinema with cosy couch seating for around 36 people, it is regularly used for film screenings and is believed to be one of a kind in New Zealand. But its versatility doesn’t stop there. With staging, seating for up to 100 people, basic lighting and speakers, the theatre can transform into an intimate performing arts venue for live theatre, music, local talent and visiting performers.

From international rock and New Zealand folk to Canadian reggae and jazz festival specials, the Junction Theatre has welcomed a wonderfully eclectic mix of performers and audiences.

And when the curtains aren’t up, the theatre can even become an exhibition space, making the Arts Junction a place that continually adapts to the needs and imagination of its creative community.

Throughout the rest of the building, you’ll find meeting rooms that double beautifully as workshop spaces, along with a small kitchen and generous reception area. These spaces are ideal for creative workshops, community meetings, exhibition openings, performances and gatherings, with plenty of room to welcome guests and add catering.

But perhaps what makes the Arts Junction special isn’t just the spaces themselves. It’s the feeling you get when you walk through the door.
