PROFILE

The Old Library Omokoroa (TOLO)

  • social connection

The Old Library, Omokoroa (TOLO) is a volunteer-run, community-led project providing a place for creative display and social connection.

Previous exhibitions have included painting, pencil/charcoal/pastel work, metal sculpture, bone and wood carving, acrylic kinetic art, fabric art, jewellery and more.

We showcase and celebrate our creative community, both amateur and professional, artists and artisans, history, culture, music, creative art and crafts. We provide demonstrations and workshops in drawing, knitting and creative fibre, papercraft, furniture upcycling and space for our young people to develop artistic interest and ability – tomorrow’s artists!

Our four main anchor groups are Omokoroa History Group who have an absolute treasury of information, photographs and artefacts through which we can learn about how our community has developed. Omokoroa Public Art Group illustrates what is involved in taking a piece of public art from concept to installation. Omokoroa Artists are regular contributors in addition to other art groups throughout the Western Bay.

We nurture our physical selves with food, our emotional selves with friends and our psychological selves with creative interests. At The Old Library Omokoroa, we offer a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere, showcasing local talent and interests where you can discover that the appreciation and involvement with art is a critical line of communication and expression.

We are open to suggestions from the community and endeavour to meet those requests. In addition, we provide a place to meet friends and new people, to learn about the locality and activities; an inclusive shared place open to everyone; social connection for young families new to the area and unsure of where to start, and more mature individuals who may live alone and seeking social connection.

Open Tuesday to Sunday 10 am to 4 pm (other times by arrangement),
