Applications Open for Scholarships to Support Creative Arts in the Bay

Applications for two creative scholarships, both offered by Acorn Foundation and administered by Creative Bay of Plenty, are now open.

The Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Scholarship is valued at $5,000 and supports the study of creative arts in any genre. Applicants must be undertaking or about to commence further study in preparation for a career in creative arts—and must either reside in Tauranga/Western Bay district or have completed part of their secondary education here.

The Coker Classical Arts Scholarship is worth $1,000 and is awarded to a Year 13 student that has a proven interest and talent in classical painting—and who wishes to pursue studies in classical art at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. Applicants must either reside in Tauranga/Western Bay district or have completed part of their secondary education here.

Recipient of the 2020 Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Scholarship Sarah Mileham (pictured) put her award towards the study of a Bachelor of Music, majoring in classical voice performance at Victoria University, and is experiencing its benefits:

“I am so thankful for the financial support I have received through the Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Scholarship,” says Sarah. “My studies at the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University have been amazing and beneficial to my future singing career.”

If you or someone you know might benefit from one of these scholarships, Creative Bay of Plenty encourages you to make a submission. Both scholarships cover study in the 2022 calendar year, and applications close at 5pm on Monday 2 August. To discuss your application, contact Creative Bay of Plenty Funding Advisor Annie Hill at annie@creativebop.org.nz.
